A zen garden can be created into almost limitless spaces – whether it is a huge, sweeping outdoor space or a little tiny desktop garden, it is not hard to create a visually pleasing piece of art using inexpensive tools and ideas.
The first step in creating your garden is to decide how big you want it to be. A desktop garden can be of almost any size. Next, you will need to create a mold for holding the sand and/or gravel. Generally speaking, Zen gardens are made up with sand. This needs to be nicely contained. If making a large, outdoor garden, old railway sleepers are an ideal material to make your container out of.
You should line the base with a good quality weed retainer, or sheet of plastic (this helps keep weeds out of your lovely garden).
Fill your container with sand or gravel, and add some selected features to the sand, such as some artfully placed rocks, or logs. You could even add statues if you like!
