With the warmer weather on the way, now is the time to start thinking about how to set your garden out to make it most enjoyable during the summer months.

Many people have patio sets, barbecues or fire pits that they will want to make the most of but you need to think carefully about where you are going to put everything to make it most useful.

A BBQ should ideally be located slightly away from the house and the edges of the garden as this will avoid smoke filling in to the house or the risk of hedges and fences catching on fire. If you have children then you should try and position it in an area that they do not use or need to pass through.

Your table and chairs or bench should be placed in such a way that it gets the most sun light, if this is what you are after. If you prefer to be out of the sun then either move it to a shady spot or invest in a good quality parasol that will provide shelter from the sun’s rays.

You may decide that you want to be able to move your garden around. Having lots of clear patio space or grass will make this easier. Try to avoid having flower beds in the middle of your garden as this will make it harder to rearrange.
