Winter cut backs

With winter well on its way, many of us are starting to wind down on our gardening. During winter many plants die off and trees lose their leaves, but prior to this is a great time to start to do some cut backs. During the autumn months, you may want to give your garden one last overhaul to see you through till spring. Mowing the lawns, pulling up weeds and pruning will all help your garden be ready for the next year and will make that first gardening session a little bit easier. If your grass has suffered over summer with limited water, being played on by children or simply swapped with equipment, then autumn is the perfect time to reach out the grass seed or lawn feed and fill... Struggling to stay on top of your gardening?

Not everyone likes to do gardening. For some it is a task that must be done but that they certainly do not look forward to. I myself, am not a keen gardener and this is partly because I don’t feel that I know enough to truly loo after my garden and plants. Some plants need to be positioned in sunlight others in shade, some need a lot of after whereas others only require a bit. Not only do you need to know how to care for your plants, but you need to be able to recognise which are plants and which are weeds. If like me, you are unsure of what you’re doing then I would strongly recommend hiring a gardener once a month or once every few weeks to... Continue reading

Making gardening easier

Some people simple do not like gardening. If it is something that you do not enjoy then you will probably put it off for weeks and even months making it a much harder task when you do come to do it. If this is you, and gardening is more of a chore than something you enjoy doing then you need to make it as easy as possible. If you have areas within your garden that are prone to weeds then why not put down some weeding blanket. You will need to dig out the top layer of soil, but the weed blanket down and then cover it over. Some people chose to cover it with bark or gravel instead of soil. Making a rockery can also transform a dead area... Continue reading

How long have I got to lay fresh turf?

Turf can usually last 2 – 3 days before it needs to be laid down and possibly a bit longer in the winter months. After this time, it will usually start to die and can be very hard to retrieve back again. If you have to keep turf before laying it down properly then you need to unroll it and ensure that it gets plenty of water, It will also need sunlight but not too much as it can scorch it. Ideally you want to get it laid as soon as possible so make sure you only order it when you are ready to put it down. Once it is laid down, ensure that it is watered regularly if we have not had much rain and try not to walk... Continue reading

Wet weather making it hard for gardeners

We have recently been experiencing some colder weather than what we can usually expect for this time of year. We have very little snow over the winter months, but many parts of the UK have experienced a number of snow outbreaks along with hail and heavy rain over the last few weeks. This weather has made it difficult for many people to maintain their gardens and finding a time when you are not at work and the grass is dry enough to cut it is seeming almost impossible for many. If this is the case you could consider hiring a gardener for the next few months to come and cut the lawns when you are out (weather permitting) as leaving it could make it extremely hard work when you finally...
