Irstead is home to a collection of pretty houses and a lovely spot to stop and enjoy the peace and quiet. 100 years ago the staithe would have been bustling with wherries unloading coal and other goods. In winter, ice was cut into blocks and stored at a nearby icehouse until it could be transferred to Great Yarmouth to be used for packing fish. The beautiful thatched church of St. Michael is sited approximately 150m from the public moorings.
